Random Thoughts: a dreamer

“A dreamer is one who can only find his way by moonlight, and his punishment is that he sees the dawn before the rest of the world.”

Holidays!

I've been a little absent around my blog, being busy with my master project and other things, hope during the holidays I have some time and mind to come back and do some updates and also share a couple of things.
Meanwhile I wish you all a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!!

Random Thoughts: Tragedies in life

“There are only two tragedies in life: one is not getting what one wants, and the other is getting it.”

- Oscar Wilde

Random Thoughts: Richeness

“Ordinary riches can be stolen, real riches cannot. In your soul are infinitely precious things that cannot be taken from you.”

Random Thoughts: Doubt and Judge

“Doubt yourself and you doubt everything you see. Judge yourself and you see judges everywhere. But if you listen to the sound of your own voice, you can rise above doubt and judgement. And you can see forever.”

The Beard man said | it's ok to be different

Bites and Bits of My Weekend

So, as you can notice, I've change the blog layout a bit. The organisation it's pretty much the same, just the header and background have changed. I feel this way is way more clean.

What do you thing of the new header?

I was kind of absent this weekend, was working on a personal project. Nothing very fancy or so, just doing some DIY lightbox for myself. I'm so excited, I can't wait to finish it.
I went and bought almost all the materials yesterday and start to construct it and painting it, with help from my dad. And yesterday it was all fine, the weather was ok, the sun timidly came through the clouds, it was kind of warm. The paint dry really well, I was even able to apply two coats. Put today, oh well, today it as been total different, it's raining like hell, and there is a lot of storms around. (poor granny, she is so afraid of them). With this it means everything is kind of wet and really hard to dry. (oh well but what could you expect for the southern wind. OH north winds when will you came back? - well if you don't know, where I live, most of the time there is north winds, it's lightly cold sometimes, or even really cold, but its the normal around. Everything goes crazy and storm when the winds come from south).
Oh yeah, was saying that I was building a lightbox... here are some pictures of what I've done so far.

So as you can see in the first picture, it's a frame that we've made, and I painted with paint for wood. In the rest of the photos are some of the materials that we are going to use.
If everything goes well on wednesday or thursday I will have my lightbox made.

Recently I've also starting to be kind of obsess with christmas gifts. I've almost have bought everything. Now it's time to start to thing about some fun and creative packagings. I've been seeing some card or paper diy boxes, and that's probably what I'm going to do.
My latest purchase were these beautys

These are soap, from a portuguese manufactured. They are made with coconut oil, and these ones smell like Plum, Lemon and Peaches. I've been wanted to offer these ones for a real long time, and now it's time. Where I've bought these ones, were the only available, put in other shops exist really neat and vintage like soaps of this brand. I almost felt tempted to have them for myself, but no, not this time.

And you, are you already programming your christmas gifts?
Hope you had a nice weekend, and I which you a lovely week.
Oh, and if you have time go and check my art/drawing blog, I've launched it this week. Scribbling Drafts

"Sometimes the curiosity can kill the soul but leave the pain
And every ounce of innocence is left inside her brain
And through the looking glass we see shes painfully returned
But now off with her head I fear is everyone's concern
You see there's no real ending
It's only the beginning
Come out and play

"Imagine a place you can always escape to
An island off the coast of nowhere
A new destination of your own creation
Just waiting till you choose to go there

This is a place where your mind can escape
All the problems today and go far, far away
This is a time with no history
Welcome to mystery

How delightful it will be
When they take us up and throw us,

And gave a look askance -
Said he thanked the whiting kindly,
But he would not join the dance.
Would not, could not, would not,
Could not, would not join the dance.
Would not, could not, would not,
Could not, could not join the dance.

Sting in the ear: Punching in a Dream

The Naked and Famous – Punching In A Dream

All the lights go down as I crawl into the spaces
Fight tight all the screens, life tearing at the seams

Wait, I don’t ever want to be here
Like punching in a dream breathing life into the nightmare

If it falls apart I will surely wake it
Bright lights turning green
This is worse than it seems

Wait, I don’t ever want to be here
Like punching in a dream breathing life into the nightmare

For get through, forget you
In the place that you’re feeling lost
In the corner where this moment

And the face that you wish was a ghost

(woooow … wooow … woooo)

Wait, I don’t ever want to be here
Like punching in a dream Breathing life into the nightmare

Inspiration for the WeekEnd 5/6

I confess that I don't feel prepared for this weather, rain, then sun, then super cloudy and more rain, oh and wind. It's crazy! I want to use winter clothes, but then I feel to warm, but if I don't use "rain" clothes, I will stay all wet! Oh well... I don't mind the rain, I just would like that would only rain when I'm at home, and not just when I leave home.

It's one of my daily obsessions of read online. The blog from the amazing Claudia (aka Twiggs). I adore her writing and also her photography. Really worthy to visit. a place for twiggs I found her blog, maybe two months ago, and since then it as been a constant reading.

Sting in the ear: Nouvelle Vague

Nouvelle Vague is a French musical collective led by musicians Marc Collin and Olivier Libaux. Their name is a play on words, meaning "new wave" in French, and "bossa nova" (new trend) in Portuguese. This refers simultaneously to their "Frenchness" and "artiness" (the '60s new wave of cult French cinema), the source of their songs (all covers of punk rock, post-punk, and New Wave songs), and their use of '60s bossa nova-style arrangements.
Members, former members and contributors include many French artists who are now very well known on their own and considered as part of what is now called the "Renouveau de la chanson Française" (the "Renewal of French Music"). Singers like Camille Dalmais, Phoebe Killdeer, Mélanie Pain, Marina Céleste, Gerald Toto and Mareva Galanter.

Discography

You can find most of their musics at Youtube, I've only chosen some of my all time favourites.
I have theirs third CD, besides the great musical selection, all the design and graphics are excellent.

2004: Nouvelle Vague

On their first album, Nouvelle Vague, the group resurrected classics from the New Wave music era, and reinterpreted them in a bossa nova style. The songs were stripped back to acoustic arrangements with lithe shaker rhythms achieved by gathering a parade of singers from all over the world (six French, one Brazilian and one New Yorker) to cover bands including XTC, Modern English, The Clash, Joy Division, Tuxedomoon, The Cure, and The Undertones. The various female singers on Nouvelle Vague only performed songs they had never heard before, to ensure that each cover would have a unique quality.

This typeobsession: Candle Packaging

I really like packaging with big and bold simple typography. In this one the cut out numbers do really the trick.

"White Wood' is designed by Marc Atlan, an art director with packaging credits including Comme des Garçons, Helmut Lang and Yves Saint Laurent. Atlan, whose résumé previously includes projects for Baxter of California, describes his design as “a play on the contrast between a classic restrained elegance and a bold modern statement'."

The Beard man said | Steve Jobs on creativity

“Creativity is just connecting things. When you ask creative people how they did something, they feel a little guilty because they didn’t really do it, they just saw something. It seemed obvious to them after a while. That’s because they were able to connect experiences they’ve had and synthesize new things. And the reason they were able to do that was that they’ve had more experiences or they have thought more about their experiences than other people. Unfortunately, that’s too rare a commodity. A lot of people in our industry haven’t had very diverse experiences. So they don’t have enough dots to connect, and they end up with very linear solutions without a broad perspective on the problem. The broader one’s understanding of the human experience, the better design we will have”

Print the Graphic: Colaboratorium

I've like this design very much, mostly because of the cardboard and the typography, and also because of the logo, it's a fantastic double reading.

Designed by Andrea Avidad
Colaboratorium was born as a collective of ten graduting design and marketing students. The main idea was to mix different cultural backgrounds, counting with people from Sweden, Italy, Spain, Ireland and Venezuela. Also to mix different knowledge  in areas like graphic design, media design, marketing and art direction.
After the group was created, the need of an identity was imminet. I decided that not only a logotype or selection of colors was enough for the formal part of Colaboratorium. I wanted to work with different materials, to have different textures, cardboard, metal chains, papers, stickers.
This is a packaging that defines the own nature on the collective: eclectic, unique and surprising

Sting in the ear: Mat Kearney

Recently a friend of mine share with me the musics of Mat, and basically it's what I've been listening.

Mat Kearney

He was born December 1, 1978 in Eugene, Oregon, United States.

In a music world longing for a new voice, Mat Kearney represents the singer-songwriter for the 21st century music lover. While keeping an acoustic base, Kearney incorporates a wide range of influences that color his songs with unique textures. At the same time, Kearney captures the lyrics that stir the deepest universal emotions. (via take40.com)

Mat began focusing on music fusing his simple guitar playing with spoken word, or rap, he started to play at coffee shops and soon began to make small amounts of money. At this time, Mat had met friend and future producer, Robert Marvin. The two began to make music together, but Marvin had plans to move to Nashville, Tennessee. Marvin asked Kearney to help the move and Mat accepted the journey. Kearney says, "I helped him pack up his trailer and we put a mattress on the back of his truck. We basically drove cross-country and slept in the back. When we pulled into Nashville we slept in a school parking lot for three days until we finally rented this apartment where the roof was caving in and mice were crawling all over." Mat decided to stay in Nashville to record a few demos with Marvin and after a few months, Mat had no plans on returning. "By the end of the summer, we had three or four songs and I realized this is what I wanted to do. It just clicked. So I called home to Oregon and said, ‘I’m not coming back’ and I never left Nashville."

While record labels were starting to offer Kearney development deals early on, he wanted to wait until he had his new material at a higher level. "I knew my songs weren't quite there yet, so instead, I worked every kind of odd job you can think of. I worked at a coffee shop, was a banquet server, worked as a youth mentor with kids. But I kept working on music," he says. "I tried to devote time to write and to perform at the same time. I started by playing these songwriting nights and performing my songs around people like Nickel Creek and Duncan Sheik. Living in Nashville really stepped up my songwriting."
It took about four years, but once Kearney felt he had his songs right, he completed his first album, Bullet, on a self-financed, shoestring budget. The album would go on to sell roughly 40,000 copies through an independent label in Nashville. The response to his songwriting was instantaneous and lead to a record deal with Aware/Columbia Records.
